Returning to Jeonbuk Hyundai, goalkeeper Song Bum-keun (28) looks to the top again.

Song Bum-keun moved to Shonan Belmare in the Japanese J-League in 2023 and experienced overseas performances for two years. He returned to Jeonbuk ahead of this season.

Time in Japan was not easy. Injuries and competition to become a starting player were the first challenges facing Song, who had grown up well in Jeonbuk. "It was my first time going abroad and I had to take care of everything by myself. I had a hard time cooking meals and washing dishes. I sympathized with the difficulties faced by overseas players and realized that I enjoyed my time in Jeonbuk," said Song when meeting reporters at a training camp in Bangkok, Thailand on Monday.
I don't remember it as just a hard time. "I certainly had a hard time, but I have no regrets at all," Song said. "I experienced a lot in Japan. I certainly participated in the build-up more times in Shonan than in Jeonbuk. In particular, I think I have improved through a lot of mid- to long-range pass training. Overall, I think I have upgraded my software. I think I can show better performances based on my experiences."

Up until Song's time, Jeonbuk had won the championship trophy every year, but coincidentally, the team collapsed after missing him. "I don't think it was because I moved to the team," Song said. "I was upset and sad to see the situation of the friendly team. I didn't know such a difficult time would come. I tried a relegation battle in Shonan, and I felt like I was living on a cliff. Still, I believed that Jeonbuk would not be eliminated. I was nervous, but I had trust in it."

Although the team's atmosphere and members have changed a lot over the past two years, Song Bum-keun seems to be adapting to the team without difficulty. Song said, "There is nothing awkward at all. There are a lot of players left and some staff members knew about it. Maybe because time passed, I think I am halfway through the team. I have more things to do. I think I have more responsibilities. Now that the team has been shaken, I think there are things to correct. I think I should play a role in my place."

"My goal is to return to the top. Song Bum-keun, who has always been a champion, naturally desperately wants it. I think it would be perfect if he wins. I'm not going to come and win, but if that happens in time for my return, there's nothing I can hope for anymore," he said, expressing his commitment to win the championship title.

Jeonbuk is currently preparing for a new era with coach Gus Foyet. "We are following the coach's demands and tactics well. We have high expectations," Song said. "The goalkeeper must put his capability to defend first. We must defend well. He also says coordination of defense and cross defense are important in the background. Build-up is the last. You don't have to take big risks and do build-up. You order something simple and appropriate for the situation." 안전놀이터

It is an important year for Song as well. He has some challenges, including his return to the national team and the best 11 in the K League 1. "The national team is a big reason why I came back to Jeonbuk," he said. "I really respect (Cho) Hyun-woo. He is still the best. Watching him win the MVP award, I had a dream as well. Hyun-woo is not a mountain that I should overcome. He is a senior player who should just follow him. It gives me motivation. I will try to follow him this year no matter what."
